Betsy earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. While at Carnegie Mellon University, she was awarded a scholarship from the Heinz endowment to study in Switzerland under such notable designers as Paul Rand, Armin Hoffman and Richard Sapper and noted artist Dorothy Hoffman. After graduation she worked in Pittsburgh for Exhibitgroup/Giltspur where she designed graphics and exhibits for Volkswagen, Audi, Schering-Plough and other large corporations. After relocating to San Diego, California 1992 she established her own design studio, A Design Garden. During this time, she freelanced with notable designer, David Carson, on projects for Nike, Pepsi, RayGun Magazine and other high-profile corporate clients. In 1993, she was a founding partner in GarageFonts, an alternative font design a distribution company. In 1995 she became a published author having written a complete guide to graphic design production titled Macintosh Design to Production, the Definitive Guide (Prima Publishing,1995, ISBN 155958751-2). In the past 18 years, she has completed a full-range of graphic design projects for local and national clients. Her strong graphic design background has helped her smoothly transition into her public and environmental art career.
