Fifth-Grade Legacy Mural
Overview
Each year the graduating class of Bird Rock Elementary School creates a tile or painted mural as a gift to the school. In 2004 Betsy Schulz worked with parents and PTA members to design a mural for that year’s fifth-grade class. The lines of the tiles that wave along the building wall represent ocean waves and the sand and rocks underneath. Students pressed quotes and inspirational words into the tiles to celebrate reading. The project was funded by the PTA and private donors and took one month to complete.
